The content of this tab relates entirely to how the pop up will be made to appear.
Trigger
In general, the default setting of Trigger is perfect for most cases. There are other trigger cases which are very application specific which we don't need to go into in the huge guide.
The delay option may be useful occasionally if you wish the popup to appear slightly after the page appears in other words, not exactly at the same time. This can be useful if you want visitors to pay attention!
Floating Button
You can enable a floating button to appear on your web page when the visitor closes that popup panel. Sometimes this might be helpful to give a reminder or to thank them for reading the popup panel. Is it used often? Not really!
Opening Behaviour
Rarely used.
Accessibility
These options make it easier for those with visual disabilities.
- Set Auto Focus to ON
- Set Close with ESC Key to ON
Animation
Animation can be helpful as it makes it obvious that something's happening and the choices are significant. You can set the transition for when the popup appears (In Effect) and when it disappears (Out Effect) and, as in PowerPoint, you can set the duration of those transitions. Generally the defaults which have been set for you are ideal.
Cookie
This setting is quite important. The default value shows that the pop up will Never stay hidden when the popup closes:
This however can be quite irritating for those who visit the website regularly. Because the home page is the standard location for popups, those who visit the website often will always see the pop up even if they close it. To avoid this however you can set the value of the cookie to be a number of hours or days so the popup appears once when they first visit the website and then is not shown to them again for a number of hours or days. You can choose whatever is appropriate for your particular situation.
In the example above, we have chosen the to set the popup to appear once when the website visitor first arrives and having closed it, that visitor will not see the pop up again for another 7 days.
During testing and setup, we might suggest that you will leave this value as never and only set its true value when you put the popup into production.
