Whenever a document is uploaded to Dropfiles, it is given a unique web address or URL. This unique address can be used to give outside agencies access to a specific document on your website without having to make them look for it.
Another reason you might do this is if you wish to create a folder with hidden documents which are only accessible to those who know the URLs for those documents, sometimes called hidden documents.
To do this, we strongly encourage you to create a brand new folder within Dropfiles, one which will hold these unique files and is not referenced anywhere else in the website and therefore you can put whatever you like into it and they could be seeing as private documents
.
8.10.1 Where to find the URL
I'll assume that you have created your new folder and I've now uploaded a file into it. Select that file and look in the right hand properties panel. Scroll down until you see the section called File direct link, it will look a bit like this:
Notice the copy button? If you click the copy button it will copy the full URL for you so that you can paste it into emails, word documents or other applications.
8.10.2 What if I update the document? Will the URL change?
As long as you don't delete the document, the URL will always work. If you have a new version of the document that you want people to download, rather than having to delete the old version, upload the new one and then grab the knew URL, all you need to do is to use the Send a new version option at the bottom of the right hand panel.
Click SELECT FILES and upload your new document version.
So now, when you upload a new version of the document the URL does not change however when people download what they will get is the new version of the document!
